Arctic Aurora Getaway
Day 01: Greetings! Step into Iceland, where Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital, rests just below the Arctic Circle. With around four hours of winter sunlight and over 22 hours in summer, this city is a captivating blend of volcanic peaks, a crystalline ocean, and a lively arts and nightlife scene. Explore the National Museum to journey through Iceland’s history from Viking settlement to the present day, or mingle with locals at the Laugardalslaug Geothermal Pool.
Day 02: Embark on an early morning journey from Reykjavik, tracing the iconic ‘Golden Circle.’ Explore Þingvellir National Park, the historic site of Iceland’s inaugural parliament, with a captivating view of the Silfra fissure. Move on to the Geysir geothermal area, witnessing the Strokkur geyser’s impressive 30-meter eruption. Marvel at the Gullfoss Waterfall’s breathtaking beauty and power. Spend the night in Hvolsvollur Valley at a converted Icelandic farm guesthouse, perfect for Northern Lights viewing away from city lights. If the skies are clear, venture into the snow for a chance to witness the enchanting green lights.
Day 03: Embark on your day by exploring the enchanting Skógafoss waterfall, a majestic Icelandic giant spanning 25 meters in width and plummeting 60 meters. Feel its mighty force up close and ascend a winding staircase to a breathtaking viewpoint. Spot rainbows dancing in the spray on sunny days. Continue your journey along Iceland’s South Shore, captivated by natural marvels like Reynisdrangar’s rock formations, the Dyrhólaey promontory, and the ebony sands of Reynisfjara’s beach. Traverse the path of the 1782-1783 Laki eruption’s lava as you head to the iconic Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, a mesmerizing display of floating blue icebergs against charcoal-colored sand. Spend the night at a cozy farm stay on the South Coast, with a chance to witness the Northern Lights if the weather permits.
Day 04: Embark on a unique adventure across Europe’s largest ice cap, Vatnajokull, home to about 30 flowing glaciers. No prior experience is needed for this hike. It’s poignant to consider that global warming is causing the glacier to recede, and it may vanish in years to come. Alternatively, opt for a hike to the glacier’s tongue or return to the picturesque glacier lagoons at Jokulsarlon or Fjallsarlon. For a leisurely morning, explore the farm stay surroundings or visit the Thorbergur Centre. Later, journey to Vik, a seaside town nestled between the sea and towering cliffs – Iceland’s southernmost mainland settlement.
Day 05: Today, we’ll explore the mesmerizing Seljalandsfoss waterfall before returning to Reykjavik. Discover the city’s highlights on a guided walk, including the old harbor, city center, and the iconic Hallgrimskirkja church. Reykjavik boasts a vibrant arts scene, quirky cafes, and a relaxed atmosphere. Explore art galleries or, if the Northern Lights still beckon, venture out for another chase. Alternatively, unwind at the renowned Blue Lagoon. Tonight, join your fellow explorers to celebrate the conclusion of this unforgettable Northern Lights Escape.
Day 06: Today marks the beginning of your journey, and it’s time to bid farewell with a ‘sjaumst’. With no scheduled activities, feel free to check out from the hotel at your convenience before midday. If you plan to depart later, arrangements can be made to store your luggage. Extend your stay, and we can secure additional accommodation for you, subject to availability. Explore the city’s captivating art galleries or opt for an adventurous Silfra Fissure snorkeling experience, revealing an underwater ridge with incredible water visibility of up to 120 meters.
